#BrownEmergencyHealthTip from Dr. Gianna Petrone: Sun Protection

Fun in the Sun!! As we are all spending more time outside this summer here are a few tips to protect yourself and your skin from damaging rays.

1) Remember, everyone needs sunscreen! The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a broad spectrum sun screen with SPF 30 or higher that is water resistant. SPF 30 will protect against 97% of UVA rays.

2) Broad spectrum means the sun screen will protect you from both UVA and UVB . UVA increases the AGING process causing age spots and wrinkles. UVB causes SUN BURNS. 3) There is no safe way to tan! Tanning = damage to your skin which will increase your risk of early skin aging and cancer. Apply sun screen every time you are going outside and reapply every two hours. 4) Don’t forget the tops of your feet, neck, ears and top of your head! SPF lip balm is also helpful as skin cancer can develop on your lips 5) Dress to Protect! Water, snow and sand can all reflect damaging rays and increased your risk of sun burn. Consider polarized sunglasses , wide brim hats and a light weight t-shirt. FOR MORE BROWN EMERGENCY HEALTH TIPS AND/OR VIRTUAL TELECARE PLEASE VISIT US AT:
